Full Walkthrough of Carnival of Terror Obby
Gate to coaster in order — lava, boiler, plaza chase, Doom Drop, portal, volcano, funhouse.
This walkthrough is the legal line through Escape The Carnival of Terror Obby. It assumes you already read Getting Started and can jump on command. There is no branching campaign. One path, about 24 checkpoints, more than 25 obstacles, 10 players in the server, and a reset if you leave.
Keep the checkpoint map open if you want numbers while you play. When the plaza starts, leave this page and use Beat the Clown. When halls start lying to you, use the funhouse guide. After you can clear, the speedrun guide is the timed version of the same route.
Checkpoints 1–2: gate, tracks, lava
Spawn at the clown-mouth gate. Jim stands to the side with a balloon. Read him, then pass the turnstile onto the cart tracks. The floor under the rails is lava. Treat every gap as a committed jump; hesitation on the lip drops you in.
Stay centered on planks when they are wide enough, and do not hug decorations that look solid but have thin collision. This opening is short on purpose. If you die here, your camera or jump bind is the problem, not the carnival. Fix that on Controls before you enter the boiler.
Checkpoints 3–9: boiler room
The boiler is a long indoor stretch with fire jets and hands that punch from walls. Move in beats, not in a held sprint. Watch the wall for a tell, take one platform, then wait. Clown hands and spinning saws punish people who treat the room like a speed pad.
Slick metal plates in the middle of a path can slide you into a jet. Step on the edges if the center clangs. Ladders and pipes recycle you upward after a drop; if you just fell, look for the climb before you retry a jump that already sent you down. Checkpoints in this band are close. Use them. A death here is cheaper than a death after the plaza.
When you climb back toward daylight, you are leaving the boiler, not finishing the game. Jim or a similar hint near crates will push you toward the rides. Climb the fence when the route asks for it. That fence is the trigger line for the chase.
Checkpoints 10–11: plaza, clown, Ferris wheel
The plaza is the skill check the rest of the wiki keeps naming. Music changes. The evil clown runs you down with a knife. Cut wide left or right and commit toward the Ferris wheel. Do not turn around. Board a cabin; colored cars are the pickup, not a fight prompt.
If you die here ten times, stop rereading this heading. Open Beat the Clown and practice only the cut and the cabin. Players stall on this pair of checkpoints for months because they try to out-stare a faster NPC. After the wheel, the place teleports you onto wooden platforms. That teleport is success, not a glitch.
Checkpoints 12–13: Doom Drop
Jim’s next useful line is that the free-fall ride is the way forward. Doom Drop is a drop ride into a pit the game itself calls an abyss. You are supposed to ride it, not parkour around the tower forever. Watch the colored seats or platforms, get on, and accept the fall.
After the drop you are in a tighter trap hallway: more hands, more timing, more “walk through the spinning hazard on the beat.” It feels like the boiler with less light. Take it slow. The reward is not a boss door. The reward is Jim near a yellow portal.
Portal, volcano, and speed pads
The yellow portal is a real checkpoint, not flavor. Step through and you land in a more classic obby slice: open lava or fire terrain, longer jumps, and pads that change how you move. Yellow fire speeds you up. Blue fire raises jump height. Hit the pad that matches the gap in front of you. A speed pad into a short platform is how people overshoot after playing the boiler so carefully.
Volcano routing is still forward-only. If you fall, you retry the last pad checkpoint, not the plaza. That is the gift of this act. Spend it learning pad feel instead of racing a friend who already has VIP speed. Coil purchases from the gamepass list will change this section more than they change the chase.
Funhouse, coaster, escape
Jim’s later line is the honest one: the last area was scary, and you are still locked in the carnival. The funhouse entrance copies the clown-mouth gate from the start. Inside, halls squeeze, mirrors fake extra corridors, and the camera lies. Do not improvise a full mirror-maze theory. Follow the funhouse guide for the late-game line, then board the roller coaster.
The coaster is the escape vehicle. Sit in it. Let it run. The winner’s room at the end is a small payoff space, not a second campaign. There is no boss health bar after the tracks. If you came here to fight the clown, you already passed the only encounter that matters.
A no-death clear of this route is possible once the plaza cut is muscle memory; several public videos do the whole carnival without a retry. A first clear with deaths is still a clear. If you want the timed version, take this same order into the speedrun guide and stop adding extra looks at the knife. If you only needed one room, jump back to Getting Started for the reset rule or to the guides hub for the rest of the index.
Walk this page as a script, not as lore. Call the rooms by the names above so a friend in the same server can meet you at Doom Drop instead of “somewhere dark.” When a heading here and a heading on the checkpoint map disagree in numbering, trust the map for the number and this page for the action. The carnival only moves forward. Your job is to stop giving extra deaths to rooms you already understood.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common carnival questions.
How many checkpoints are on the route?
About 24 checkpoints and more than 25 obstacles. The checkpoint map is the numbered sheet; this page is the action list.
What is the area order from spawn to escape?
Gate and lava, boiler, plaza and Ferris wheel, Doom Drop, portal, volcano speed pads, funhouse, roller coaster. Details are in the headings above.
Where do most players get stuck?
The plaza chase at checkpoints 10–11. Use Beat the Clown instead of repeating the boiler.
Is a no-death run possible?
Yes. The legal line has no required death. Practice the plaza cut, then the funhouse, then chain them.
What does the yellow portal do?
It is a checkpoint that sends you into the classic volcano obby with speed and jump pads. It is not the finish.
Is there a boss after the roller coaster?
No. The coaster is the escape. The evil clown is a chase, not a final arena.
